Are you curious about calligraphy? Maybe you want to see what it’s all about without spending any money?

Learn a little about the history of calligraphy, as well as some of the tools and supplies we use.  See how to write some simple lower case letters with a broad (or oblique) nib.

Here’s an opportunity for you to get your feet wet (or, more accurately, get your fingers dirty!) without a financial commitment.

This is the ideal place to begin if you’re just starting out on your calligraphic journey.

These easy-to-master gothic letters are not only pleasing to the eye, but – as luck would have it – are also much less complicated to draw than they look!

Upon completion of the course, you will undoubtedly be ready to learn other styles of calligraphy. The skills and knowledge you’ll gain in this course will serve as a solid foundation for your ongoing exploration of this timeless art – the art of beautiful writing..

Carolingian style

The Carolingian style of calligraphy is one that isn’t “scary”, as the letterforms are similar to those that we read and write every day. There’s a good reason for that, as you’ll find out in the section that talks of the historical aspect. Reference the photo with the calligraphy in green ink, just to the right.

The Foundational Hand

Foundational Hand Traditional Calligraphy (Also known as book-hand or the formal manuscript) This is a complete course that will help you to master this fundamental style of calligraphy. Once you learn a round-hand (like this one), learning other scripts, be they straight or sloping, will be relatively easy. (Reference the photo with the calligraphy in black ink at the far right.)

Do you just love having a pen or a marker or a pencil in hand? Hearing the soft sound of the words appearing on your page? This course was made for people that really feel at home with a pile of blank sheets of paper and a mess of writing tools spread out over the desk!

With brush lettering, you can enjoy a sort of freedom that isn’t necessarily as easy when doing traditional calligraphy. Letterforms are more spontaneous and can be adapted quite easily to your own natural style of writing. Click here to go to the course.
