Progress not perfection

In a world that often celebrates flawless outcomes and instant success, it’s easy to get caught up in the idea that everything must be perfect to be valuable. And this is oh-so-true when it comes to calligraphy.

The truth is, perfection can be paralysing. An endless chase for an ideal often holds us back — holds us back from uncapping our parallel pen & drawing a few strokes, and holds us back from making real progress that leads to growth.

Growth. One of the essential keys to our well being and overall happiness

Embrace the process, not the destination. Progress is about small, consistent steps forward—even when things aren’t perfect. Each mistake, crooked or wobbly stroke, ink blot or misspelled word is a part of that journey. It’s not about getting everything right; it’s about moving forward, learning, and improving along the way. Every bit of progress adds up, and over time, it’s those incremental advances that truly make a difference.

Perfection might seem like a worthy goal, but it can make us focus more on the end result than the growth we experience throughout the process. By focusing on progress instead, we open ourselves up to creativity, experimentation, and the freedom to fail without fear. Perfection doesn’t leave room for mistakes or evolution. Progress does.

So, instead of beating yourself up for not being “perfect,” give yourself credit for every step you take. Celebrate growth, even if it’s small. Remember: progress isn’t linear, but it’s always moving forward.

Think, too, that striving for too much perfection isn’t going to do a whole lot of good for your “peace of mind”. And “peace of mind” is going to lead you down the road to vast improvement in whatever it is that you’re doing. Calligraphy, in our case!
